A Port Jackson Shark (heterodontus portusjacksoni) as been found live on Newspapers Doorstep in Victoria State in Australia. Police in Australia say they are “flabbergasted” as to how and why the

The two-foot (60cm) fish was found lying at the front doorstep of The Standard in Warrnambool city under cover of darkness after midnight on Wednesday. The port Jackson is said to be relatively harmless.

Police said the Port Jackson shark which is very common in Australia, was spotted in the small hours of Wednesday morning by man who was leaving a restaurant.

When the police arrived they poured water over the shark to see if it was still alive. To there amazement the shark started kicking.  The police headed quickly over to the nearby McDonalds Restaurant and got a bucket of water, then released the Port Jackson shark into the harbour.

Constable Dwyer’s partner, Acting Sgt Greg Cresell, told the Warrnambool Standard that it was one of the most bizarre incidents he had come across in his time as a police officer.

“We’ve had some strange things in the van before, but never a shark,” he said.

A fisheries official told the paper that the sharks were harmless, except for two venomous dorsal spines.

Authorities have vowed to charge the offenders with animal cruelty, if they find those responsible for dumping the shark.
