pistachio and something! Some people have asked, can pistachio nuts cause diarrhoea? Well not only that, they can give you pistachio salmonella.
The Food and Drug Administration in the US (FDA) has issued a warning to consumers on Tuesday night, urging them to stop eating foods containing pistachios and have called for a pistachio recall. The FDA learned of a salmonella contamination on Tuesday 24/03, from Kraft after the food company discovered salmonella in roasted pistachios during a routine test. California is the second largest producer of pistachios in the world. Food safety officials believe recalls will likely take place over the next several days because pistachios have since been repackaged into other products for trade.

I guess that means I can’t have my pistachio pudding cool whip salad or make my vanilla fudge with pistachios recipe yummy. What are the salmonella symptoms?
Salmonella typhimurium symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach cramps and sometimes vomiting and fever. On average, it takes from 12 to 72 hours for the symptoms to develop after swallowing an infectious bout of salmonella. Symptoms usually last for four to seven days and can clear up without treatment. You will need treatment if you become dehydrated and in some cases this can even be fatal if not treated correctly.

Other nutty salmonella outbreaks have included the peanut butter salmonella outbreak in January this year where More than 125 consumer peanut butter products, from more than 70 companies, where recalled in the ongoing U.S. salmonella outbreaks.
